Small business IT support starts with a clear picture
Most small businesses don't have an IT department. Someone in the office ends up in charge of the computers, the email accounts and the backups, on top of their real job. Or an outside provider handles it, and nobody can say what was done last month. Either way, the owner is making decisions about technology without a clear view of what's there.
A free IT assessment gives you that view first. This page explains what it is, what it isn't and what happens after.
Who the assessment suits
It suits an owner who handles IT personally, an office manager who became the IT contact without ever being asked, or a business that works with an outside provider it can't see into. It also suits a company that has grown past its workarounds: a new location, a new owner, more people on more computers than the old setup was built for. If you're preparing to sell, a clear picture of your technology helps then too.
What business IT support looks like before you sign anything
Business IT support starts with an inventory. Which computers do you have, and how old are they? Are your backups running, and has anyone checked that they can be restored? Who holds the admin logins to your email, your domain and your network? If the answer is "a former employee" or "I'm not sure," that's worth knowing. None of this needs a technical background. We explain what we find in plain English, and the roadmap is for the person who runs the business, not for an engineer.
Our assessment looks at those questions: your devices, your backups, your security basics and who holds the admin logins. Then we plan the fixes, so you know what you're dealing with before you spend anything.
Where an IT security assessment fits
You may have searched for an IT security assessment. Ours includes the security basics, such as whether multi-factor authentication is turned on and who can sign in as an administrator. It is not a penetration test, a formal security audit or a compliance review, and it doesn't certify anything. It's a practical first look at how your technology is set up, with a roadmap for the fixes.
What happens after the assessment
The assessment is free, and there's no commitment. If you decide you want help with the fixes, Onward's managed IT service is month to month, from $100 per user per month. Monitoring is automated and runs 24x7x365. The help desk and remediation run Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM Eastern, and critical issues are answered within 2 business hours. If you'd rather use the roadmap yourself, that's your decision. Nobody will pressure you to sign anything.
